Nationwide

320 Morningside Rd, Edinburgh EH10 4QW, UK – 0800 554 0936

Staff very friendly and helpful!

Really helpful staff. Compared to the high street bank I also use, Nationwide is a breath of fresh air. Also have a pretty decent app, which means I find myself coming here less.

Local Chambers of Commerce for EH13 9QW with contact details and location maps. These can be an extraordinarily effective way of getting into the business community and / or getting things done. Equally they can be entirely useless depending on the chair. If they have networking events associated with them definitely go, and keep going, if you have a business that need local support. What you put in is exactly what you get out.

Mixed review for me. Positive: On one of my visits, there were three guys standing chatting. I was wary of interrupting them however when I asked one of the guys for assistance as I had a heavy tv unit in my car to dispose of, I was helped with no problem at all thankfully. Negatives: On one occasion I arrived with a full car and the tip was closed as it was "too windy" despite having been before and since on windy days and it was open. Fair enough if it was a gale but this is Scotland, it's windy most of the time and on this particular day the wind wasn't particularly bad in my opinion, it was worse on my most recent visit and it was open. Second negative: Unaware of the "no admittance after 7:20 pm" rule, I arrived at the site one evening at 7:17pm and the gates were already closed and the guys were already most of the way up the park. There was a lady in front of me too and she arrived five minutes before I did and it was closed already then.To have to the gates locked up and for the guys to have walked the length of the tip from the gate to almost the top of the site by the time I arrived at the gates, they must have closed between ten past and quarter past 7. The lady in front of me was adamant she was there just before quarter past and it was already closed. You should not be locking the gates until 20 past as your sign states we can come in up to 20 past. As the other poster here said, it's no wonder some people fly tip when things like this happen. Make sure you arrive before 7pm if you want to be sure you can get in (weekends excluded obviously as it closes earlier). Thanks

Dental Surgeries

Craiglockhart Dental Practice

132 Colinton Rd, Edinburgh EH14 1BY, UK – 0131 443 4050

I can not recommend this practice enough! I recently joined as I required some urgent dental work but I was also interested in the teeth whitening treatments as well as getting my front crown replaced (as I always felt my last crown didn't quite match my other front tooth in colour or shape). I found the service here excellent and the staff were all so friendly. I was amazed at the results and everyone who knows me comments on how great my teeth look!!

Staff very friendly and helpful, and I was seen as soon as my appointment was due. No undue pressure to undertake unnecessarily expensive treatments, but instead a professional and first class scale and polish - and all on NHS. I was with a private practice for years and there is absolutely no discernable difference in the quality of care...except there's no wallet-paralysing bill at the end. Cannot believe that everyone eligible doesn't take advantage of this excellent service.

Morningside Dental Clinic

150 Morningside Rd, Edinburgh EH10 4PX, UK – 0131 447 6431

As far as dentists go this is the best 1 I've been to. Friendly, informative and quick pain free treatment!

From the moment I walked in for advice to the end of the 6 visits my poor teeth required it was a great experience. Highly recommended, from a man who's had great dentists in the USA, Japan and Hungary. Kilroy's the greatest. He doesn't use laughing gas - a pity - but there's no pain anyway.

Seven Hills Dental Practice

302 Oxgangs Rd N, Edinburgh EH13 9ND, UK – 0131 441 3231

I have always been seen promptly and treated courteously.I was impressed that a gum inflammation was linked as a side effect of medication that I was taking for blood pressure which after consulting my doctor I stopped. This was reassuring that this was recognised and linked to the medication which when I stopped several other side effects disappeared. Very grateful for attention to detail.Thankyou.

I attended for a consultation today with Dr. Green. It was excellent! He explained all the options avaliable to me and listened to what I had to say. The rest of the staff were very friendly. Above what I expected from NHS. Thanks!

Been in worse hotels/ b & b's meadows ward was my choice or maybe not my choice but theirs for my unplanned holiday. Food could be a little better but good sized portions. Own room was nice but had more hits than the Beatles had seen better days. Staff was cool patients / other holiday goers where nice I do not plan to visit this place again by choice but if you end up their enjoy it for what it is

The staff were incredibly understanding and very generous with their time with my friend who was treated as an outpatient. Couldn't say enough positive things about the psych nurses who chatted with us both. 💖

The Edinburgh Clinic

40 Colinton Rd, Edinburgh EH10 5BT, UK – 0131 447 2340

It was my first visit to the Edinburgh Clinic and everyone was welcoming and efficient. The staff were all very helpful. I was put at my ease straight away and didn't have to wait long before being seen. A good experience.

Have to tell you how delighted we are with the Edinburgh Clinic. After months of persuasion, we convinced Dad to have an old injury (that's been causing him great pain for years) to be dealt with privately. From the first point of contacting the clinic, we have received an excellent service and Dad was indeed treated like a king! I think he has actually enjoyed the whole experience - a big thank you Dr Errington.

The Bethany Shop

93 Morningside Rd, Edinburgh EH10 4AY, UK – 0131 561 8997

The Bethany Shop is a great charity shop for furniture; they always have a good selection. It does change regularly so you will need to go in quite often. Alongside that they have the usual range of second-hand clothes for adults and children.

Give and get free stuff. Here you will find lots of items that people are willing to give away, for FREE! This is instead of taking them to a local landfill site. The aim of this site is to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill (20.9 million tonnes of it last year in the UK) and recycling is great news for the environment.
We all know that we need to recycle more - and this is a great way of doing it.

The food is always delicious here. The employees are always friendly. Food always quick to be served. Price is also reasonable for what you eat or drink. Toilets are always clean and tidy. There is parking place.

This is a really good dim sum restaurant. Superb dumplings and steamed buns. Service is fast and friendly; the food comes as it is ready and you can order more as you go along if required. Highly recommended.

Charwood

47 Buckstone Terrace, Edinburgh EH10 6QJ, UK – 0131 445 2233

We are firm fans of the Charwood pizzas which are crisp and delicious and we have been eating here regularly over the past few weeks. The restaurant is comfortable and the staff attentive, with a special mention for Eve who can't do enough for us when we visit. We will definitely be back.

Only had a quick light lunch but what we had was absolutely fine. Staff nice and friendly. Would go back if in the area.

Pizza Express

1 Nile Grove, Hermitage Terrace, Morningside, Edinburgh EH10 4RE, UK – 0131 447 6055

Attentive staff. Had my (toddler) daughter's food ready quicker to help keep her settled. Quick with our food. Very friendly. Asked if we had vouchers, which made it easier. Exactly what we were looking for

We shared a pizza and two starters and it was about 30 quid. Overpriced in my opinion for pizza, but it was very delicious. It was nice they have kept yhe church organ as a centerpiece. The staff member who served us was really nice.

Public & Preparatory Schools

Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh

294 Colinton Rd, Edinburgh EH13 0PU, UK – 0131 312 2200

I was a pupil at Merchiston Castle School from 2000 until 2005 (which was when I finished my A-Levels). I really enjoyed, and have fond memories of, my time at Merchiston. The staff and teachers were always very helpful and facilitating to the pupils' needs. I cannot recommend this school enough!

Absolutely top notch. Had my boys at another competing school in EDI for a bit and found the culture gravely lacking, and teachers unwilling to really care about it beyond a bit of lip service. In contrast, Merchi walks the talk through and through. Very 'real,' happy, enriched boys who support each other and are supported by teachers and staff with emotional intelligence and true caring for the experience and excitement for learning. Fabulous education. Where at prior school the kids cut each other down, here one of my sons had a peer warmly talk him through some homesickness as he tried to fall asleep, etc. Such a warm, welcoming place and parents are always about and welcome. Whereas the prior school was a scratchy starched shirt, Merchi is a warm, cozy cashmere jumper. You really can't find better. Be sure to do a taster day as again, some schools sell well but your child can only thrive and be happy and excited to go to school if the experience is amazing every single day, with every single teacher. And as a lesson learned on my part - trust your child after the taster day. You don't want to have to switch schools after 3 months because Mom and Dad were impressed by a lower-culture school just b/c "TB went there..." Merchi offers the real thing through and through.

The Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School

Edinburgh EH10, UK – 0131 337 3410

The care for the children and attention to detail that the staff give is outstanding. I wish there were more schools like this one. The children are happy probably because they are allowed to be the individuals that they are. I love the fact school starting age is 6 or 7 in steiner schools. Research shows that this is better for the children's self esteem and also for academic achievement as children learn most from playing before the age of 7. I have met many wonderful people through the school. It is a lovely community of families.
